Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the public website and admin panel operated for Senior Prof. Sachin N. Deshmukh. For data-protection enquiries, please use the contact page.

• Contact form — name, email, subject, and message when you write to us.
• Newsletter — email address when you subscribe in the footer.
• Admin users — login email, name, role, and activity logs for authorised panel users.
• Technical data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be recorded by our hosting provider for security and operations.

• Respond to contact messages and academic enquiries.
• Send research updates to newsletter subscribers who opted in.
• Operate and secure the admin panel and research-student area.
• Maintain audit logs of admin and student actions where enabled.

We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies on the public site. You will not see tracking pixels from Google Analytics, Facebook, or similar services on this portfolio.

We use the following on the public website:

• Theme preference— stored in your browser's local storage so light/dark mode is remembered.
• News read state — a small local storage value so the site can show which news items you have already seen.
• Cookie notice — we store your acknowledgement so the banner is not shown again.
• hCaptcha — on the contact form, newsletter signup, and admin sign-in to prevent spam and abuse. hCaptcha may process limited technical data; see hCaptcha's privacy policy.

When you sign in to the admin area:

• Session cookies — strictly necessary authentication cookies (Neon Auth) to keep you signed in securely. These are required for the admin service and are not used for marketing.
• Session storage — used in the admin panel for UI state (e.g. read notifications), not on public pages.

Because we only use essential and functional storage—not marketing or profiling cookies—a separate opt-in cookie consent manager is not required for this site as currently configured. We still show a notice so you know what is stored.

Contact messages and subscriber emails are kept while relevant to academic communication or until you ask for removal. Admin audit logs are retained for security and accountability. Session cookies expire when you sign out or after the session lifetime set by our auth provider.

You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data we hold about you (e.g. newsletter email or contact submission) by contacting us. Admin account changes (such as login email) are managed by the site super administrator.

The site is hosted on modern cloud infrastructure (e.g. Vercel, Neon). Authentication for admin users is handled by Neon Auth. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. Public pages may link to external academic profiles (Google Scholar, LinkedIn, etc.); those sites have separate policies.

This policy may be updated when our practices change—for example, if analytics or additional cookies are added in the future. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
